This is the work of Aidan Ng Ho Long, called '$50 Project'. A 3D printed model of Victoria Harbor mounted on wall, with video projections.
A white architectural scale model of a city with miniature buildings in various heights, viewed from above with shadows cast on a white surface.
A 3D yellow model of a cityscape or building layout on a light gray background.
Two men, one in a wheelchair, are standing outside near a railing with a person taking a photo. The man in the wheelchair is wearing glasses and a jacket, smiling. The other man is wearing a sweater and has a beard. There is a subtitle that reads, "Have a good time!" in both Chinese and English.
Young man in blue T-shirt standing on a waterfront promenade with city skyline and mountains in the background. The weather appears cloudy.

The project begins with a photo of me on the Victoria Harbour, taken by a paid photographer. I tried to switch my identity from a citizen to a visitor. The photo inspired me to reflect the subject of the tourist gaze.

On my research about Hong Kong postcards, I found some documents about the festival of Hong Kong. The second part of the project is a video referencing the vivid, highly saturated colours of postcards in its editing, using the flashing effect of LED lights and architectural model to symbolise the idealised vision of a good life, which ultimately is just an illusion.

The third part is a 3D model based on the background view of the photo I bought. I used the price of that photo as my budget to print out that model. It turned out unfinished. Buildings without ceilings, missing parts.
